Live betting on mobile phones
I got caught saying that live betting could be up to 50% of betting volumes in 3 years. I do think it is possible despite the wider industry's scepticism. Here's why I believe it:
- Better handsets - thanks to Apple, mobile operators and handset manufacturers are finally making handsets we love
- It suits developing countries. Why invest in broadband infrastructure when mobile companies will supply a wireless network for free. An expert in mobile told me that the majority of betting with one of their Eastern European partners is via the mobile.
- It's always on and always there. We tend to have a deeper relationship with our phones / small screen devices. They will be the preferred option.
- What about high rollers? Well, I think they'll appreciate the "bet anywhere" option as long as they have 3G+ connections and a great customer experience.
- The impact of new technology tends to be over-estimated in the short-term and under-estimated in the long-term. WAP was the former.
All of our products are designed with two other screens in mind: the TV and the mobile. We want our applications to work well with the former and soon, work well on the latter.
